What to pack for IRONMAN 70.3 Duisburg

IRONMAN 70.3 Duisburg is a single-transition 70.3 in the Sportpark — you rack once on the Dreieckswiese, with colour-coded bags for the bike and the run, and your bike goes in the night before. The swim is on the regatta course, the finish is on the Klönnewiese, and here's exactly what goes in each bag.

The layout, bags and check-in shape come from the race calendar and don't change year to year. Exact times are confirmed from the 2026 athlete guide.
how the race is laid out

A single transition, in two places.

Swim, bike and run all turn through one transition on the Dreieckswiese, beside the regatta course — you come back to the same rack between disciplines. The run winds through the Sportpark and finishes a few hundred metres away on the Klönnewiese, so your dry kit is moved there for you.

T1 / T2 · one transitionDreieckswieseSwim exit, bike out, then bike in and run out — all at the same rack. Your blue and red bags are both here.
finishKlönnewieseRun finish in the Sportpark. Your white street-wear bag is moved here from the Athlete Garden.
Everything sits within a few hundred metres inside the Sportpark, so you can walk between the swim, transition and finish. It's a single transition, so you return to the same rack twice — pack to the bag, and set the blue and red out where you'll reach for them.
what to pack

Three bags, by colour.

IRONMAN's colour-to-bag scheme is the same across European races, so this part is settled. Pack each bag for the discipline it powers — and for changeable mid-August weather in the Ruhr.

check-in & the clock

Your bike goes in the night before.

Duisburg runs a mandatory day-before bike check-in with the bike racked overnight — there's no race-morning bike check-in to fall back on. You collect your timing chip, wristband and stickers here too, so don't skip it.

common questions

Duisburg, answered.

What colour bag is the bike bag at Duisburg?

The blue bag is your bike / T1 bag — helmet, bike shoes, sunglasses, race belt and ride nutrition. It's dropped in transition on the Dreieckswiese at Saturday's bike check-in, the day before.

Do I have to check my bike in the day before?

Yes. Bike check-in is mandatory and day-before, with the bike racked overnight in the Sportpark. There is no race-morning bike check-in, so don't plan to bring it on the day.

How many bags do I pack?

Three: blue for the bike, red for the run, white for street wear. It's a single transition, so blue and red both sit at the one rack; the white bag is handed in at the Athlete Garden and moved to the finish for you.

What time does bike check-in close?

Bike & bag check-in closes Saturday 15 August at 18:00, the day before the race. This is confirmed from the 2026 athlete guide, not last year's provisional time. Have your bike racked and both transition bags dropped before then.

Where do the swim, transition and finish sit?

All inside Duisburg's Sportpark: the swim is on the regatta course, you rack once on the Dreieckswiese, and the run finishes on the Klönnewiese a few hundred metres away. You can walk between all three.

Anything Duisburg-specific to pack?

Plan for changeable mid-August weather: a light rain gilet for the two flat bike laps if showers are forecast, plus sunscreen for an exposed course. The regatta-course swim is flat and sheltered, so it's the bike and run that set your kit.
