What to pack for IRONMAN 70.3 Lapu-Lapu

IRONMAN 70.3 Lapu-Lapu is a single-transition 70.3 on Mactan Island — you rack at one transition at The Mactan Newtown, with colour-coded bags for the bike and the run, and your bike goes in the day before. The swim is off Mactan Newtown Beach, the bike crosses the CCLEX bridge to Cebu City, and here's exactly what goes in each bag, when check-in closes, and how race morning runs.

The layout, bags and check-in shape come from the race calendar and don't change year to year. Exact times are confirmed from the 2026 athlete guide.
how the race is laid out

A single transition, in two places.

Swim, bike and run all turn through one transition at The Mactan Newtown — you come back to the same rack between disciplines, and the run finishes on Newtown Boulevard right there. Your blue and red gear bags wait in the change tents inside transition; the black bag is moved to the finish.

T1 / T2 · one transitionThe Mactan NewtownSwim exit, bike out, then bike in and run out — all at the same transition. Your blue and red bags are in the gear tents here.
finishNewtown BoulevardRun finish on the boulevard, beside transition. Your black street bag meets you here.
With one transition you return to the same rack between disciplines, so there's less to track than a point-to-point. What you pack matters more: a tropical August day on Cebu is hot and humid, so pack each bag for the discipline and plan for heat across the whole day.
what to pack

Three bags, by colour.

IRONMAN's colour-to-bag scheme runs here too, so this part is settled: three bags handed to you at Registration — blue, red and black. Pack each for the discipline it powers, and label nothing except the official number stickers.

check-in & the clock

Your bike goes in the night before.

Lapu-Lapu runs a mandatory day-before bike check-in with the bike racked overnight — your blue and red bags hang at transition on Saturday, and there's no race-morning bike check-in to fall back on. The shape of that is fixed; the 2026 guide confirms the exact minute.

common questions

Lapu-Lapu, answered.

What colour bag is the bike bag at Lapu-Lapu?

The blue bag is your bike / T1 bag — helmet with front stickers, bike shoes, sunglasses, race belt and ride nutrition. It's hung with your bike at check-in the day before, and you pack your swim gear into it after T1.

How many bags do I pack?

Three, handed to you at Registration: blue for the bike, red for the run, black for streetwear. Blue and red hang at transition from Saturday's bike check-in; the black bag you bring on race morning and it's moved to the finish for you.

Do I have to check my bike in the day before?

Yes. Bike check-in is mandatory and day-before, with the bike racked overnight at The Mactan Newtown. There is no race-morning bike check-in, so don't plan to bring it on the day.

What time does bike check-in close?

Bike check-in and bag drop close Saturday at 18:00, the day before the race. This is confirmed from the 2026 athlete guide, not a provisional time — have your bike racked and your blue and red bags hung before then.

Where does the black bag go if the finish is separate?

Your black streetwear bag is dropped outside Transition 1 on race morning and moved to the finish on Newtown Boulevard. You collect it at Recovery after you cross the line — it's also the first bag you get back if you have to stop during the race.

What should I pack for the Cebu heat?

Plan for a hot, humid tropical day: extra sunscreen, salt tabs or electrolytes in both the blue and red bags, generous bike and run nutrition, and a cap or visor for an exposed run along the boulevard. There's little shade out on the CCLEX bridge.
