Upcoming race guides →What to pack for IRONMAN Hamburg
IRONMAN Hamburg is a single-transition Ironman in the middle of the city — you rack on the Ballindamm beside the Binnenalster, with colour-coded bags for the bike and the run, and your bike goes in the night before. The swim is in the lake, the finish is on the Rathausmarkt, and here's exactly what goes in each bag.
A single transition, in two places.
Swim, bike and run all turn through one transition on the Ballindamm, right beside the lake — you come back to the same rack between disciplines. The marathon loops the Alster and finishes on the Rathausmarkt, so your dry kit is moved there for you.
Three bags, by colour.
IRONMAN's colour-to-bag scheme is the same across European races, so this part is settled. Pack each bag for the discipline it powers — and for changeable June weather by the lake.

Your bike goes in the night before.
Hamburg runs a mandatory day-before bike check-in on the Ballindamm with the bike racked overnight — there's no race-morning bike check-in to fall back on. The shape of that is fixed; the exact closing minute is this edition's detail.
These are the 2025-guide times. This edition has raced — they stay as a reference to the shape of the week, not a live deadline.
How the morning typically runs.
The choreography barely moves year to year — transition opens early, the street bag goes in, then the rolling swim start at Jungfernstieg. The order is what matters.
Hamburg, answered.
What colour bag is the bike bag at Hamburg?
The blue bag is your bike / T1 bag — helmet, bike shoes, sunglasses, race belt and ride nutrition. It's racked with your bike on the Ballindamm the day before.
Where does the finish bag go if the finish isn't at transition?
Your black street bag is moved from transition to the Rathausmarkt finish for you. You hand it in on race morning as you leave the Ballindamm, and collect it after you cross the line in the square.
Do I have to check my bike in the day before?
Yes. Bike check-in is mandatory and day-before, racked overnight beside the Binnenalster. There is no race-morning bike check-in, so don't plan to bring it on the day.
Is the finish cut-off really earlier here?
It tends to be. As the European Championship, Hamburg has historically run a finish cut-off around 23:00 — tighter than the standard 17-hour Ironman. This edition has raced; last year's time stays as a reference to that shape, not a live deadline.
What should I pack for the June weather?
Hamburg in June is mild and changeable, with real rain odds. Pack a light rain gilet in the blue bag and a warm dry layer in the black bag for a potentially cool, long day by the water.
