What to pack for IRONMAN Tallinn

IRONMAN Tallinn is a full-distance 140.6 with five colour-coded bags — blue and red for the bike and run, white for morning clothes, plus orange and black personal-needs bags set out on course. Split transitions: you swim and start the bike at Lake Raku, then rack for the last time at Unibet Arena. Here's exactly what goes in each, when check-in closes, and how the long day runs.

ⓘThe layout, bags and check-in shape come from the race calendar and don't change year to year. Exact times are confirmed from the 2026 athlete guide.
how your bags travel

Each bag waits where you'll need it.

On a split course you never return to where you started, so your kit goes into separate bags that wait for you along the course.

Bike / T1 — what you ride in
Checked in with your bike at Lake Raku (T1) on Friday, left overnight
Waiting at T1, out of the swim
Red bag
Run / T2 — what you finish in

Waiting at the arena (T2), off the bike
Orange bag
Personal needs / bike — mid-course resupply
Set out at the bike personal-needs point — not returned
Black bag
Personal needs / run — mid-course resupply
Set out at the run personal-needs point — not returned
White bag
Street wear — start → finish
Dropped at the swim start on race morning
Moved to the arena for the finish

Check the athlete guide for where each bag is dropped and where it waits for you.

how the race is laid out

A split transition, in four places.

This is a split transition over a full 140.6 — the swim and T1 are at Lake Raku south of the city, the bike runs out through Harju County, and T2 and the finish are at Unibet Arena. Add two personal-needs bags out on course and it's five bags to get right before Friday evening.

T1 · swim → bikeLake Raku (Karuse str)Swim exit and bike out. Your bike and blue bag are checked in here on Friday and stay overnight — the sheltered lake venue is new for 2026.
→
T2 · bike → runUnibet Arena (Paldiski mnt 104b)Bike in and run out. Your red run bag is here — 180 km after you last saw the lake.
→
personal needsBike & run coursesYour orange (bike) and black (run) bags are set out at the personal-needs points partway round each course — a resupply you won't get back.
→
finishUnibet Arena (Paldiski mnt 104b)Run finish at the arena. Your white street-wear bag is brought here from the swim start.
▪A full day on a split course leaves no margin for a bag in the wrong place: once you leave Lake Raku you do not return. Personal-needs bags are your single mid-course resupply and are not returned, so pack what you'd genuinely stop for. The course stays open until 00:30 on Sunday — pack the red bag for the dark, not for the afternoon you start in.
what to pack

Five bags, by colour.

IRONMAN's colour-to-bag scheme carries the bike and run gear; a 140.6 adds bike and run personal-needs bags. Pack each for the moment it powers and label nothing else.

check-in & the clock

Your bike goes in the night before.

common questions

Tallinn, answered.

How many bags does IRONMAN Tallinn use?

Five: blue for the bike, red for the run, white for street wear, plus orange and black personal-needs bags set out on the bike and run courses. Blue stays at Lake Raku; red is at Unibet Arena.

What time does bike check-in close?

Bike and gear check-in closes at 19:00 on Friday at Lake Raku, and the bike is racked overnight. Athlete check-in closes earlier that day, at 17:00, so do the paperwork before the bike.

What are the orange and black bags for?

They're your personal-needs bags — orange for the bike, black for the run. They're set out at the personal-needs points on course. You won't get them back, so pack a resupply rather than a spare kit, and no valuables.

Where do my morning clothes go?

In the white street-wear bag, handed in at Lake Raku before the drop closes at 08:00. It's transported to Unibet Arena so dry clothes meet you at the finish.

What time does the course close?

The overall cut-off is 00:30 on Sunday — 17 hours after the final athlete starts. The swim cut-off is 09:50 and the bike course closes at 17:00. Bike and transition bags are collected from 19:00 on Saturday until 01:30 on Sunday.

How far apart are the two transitions?

Lake Raku is on the southern edge of the city and Unibet Arena is out at Rocca al Mare, to the west — two separate venues, not a walk apart. Once you leave T1 you don't return — recce both venues during race week, and plan how your supporters get from the lake to Rocca al Mare.
