What to pack for IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship Nice

Nice is a split-transition 70.3 raced over two days — the women on Saturday 12 September, the men on Sunday 13th. You pack three colour-coded bags that go to two different venues the day before your own race, and your bike stays racked overnight. Here's exactly what goes in each, when your check-in closes, and how race morning runs.

ⓘThe layout, bags and check-in shape come from the race calendar and don't change year to year. Exact times are confirmed from the 2026 athlete guide.
how your bags travel

Each bag waits where you'll need it.

On a split course you never return to where you started, so your kit goes into separate bags that wait for you along the course.

Blue bike gear bag
Bike / T1 — what you ride in
Checked in with your bike at T1 on the Promenade des Anglais, the day before
Waiting at T1, out of the swim
Red mesh run gear bag
Run / T2 — what you finish in
Dropped at T2 (Oceanice) the day before — a separate trip from the bike
Waiting at T2, off the bike
Grey morning clothes bag
Morning clothes — streetwear you take off at the start

Check the athlete guide for where each bag is dropped and where it waits for you.

how the race is laid out

A split transition, in three places.

The swim starts off the Plage des Ponchettes and T1 is on the Promenade des Anglais. The bike comes back to a different transition at Oceanice, and the run finishes back on the Promenade in front of the Théâtre de Verdure. Your bike bag and your run bag are handed in at two separate venues on the same afternoon.

▪The two check-ins happen in the same window but in two places, so leave time to get between them — and pack each bag before you set off, because you will not get either bag back on race morning.
what to pack

Three bags, by colour.

Three bags are issued at athlete check-in, and the guide is strict about one thing in particular: age-group athletes must put the helmet INSIDE the blue bike gear bag. You may not leave it on the bike or on the ground.

  • Spare lacesoptional
Dropped at T2 (Oceanice) the day before — a separate trip from the bike. Collect it there between 15:30 and 19:00 on your own race day.

Your streetwear bag for the swim start. Labelled with the third gear-bag sticker from your athlete packet.
+Keep with you what you actually swim in — wetsuit, goggles, the issued swim cap and your timing chip. You collect the timing chip at bike check-in, not at athlete check-in, so don't leave the Promenade without it.
check-in & the clock

Your bike goes in the night before.

Athlete check-in runs Wednesday to Friday, 09:00–18:00, at the Miroir d'eau in the IRONMAN Village — and it is not open on Saturday. Every race packet must be collected by 18:00 on Friday 11 September or you will not be permitted to race. Bike and bag check-in is separate, and falls on the day before your own race: women Friday 12:00–18:00, men Saturday 15:30–19:00.

common questions

Nice, answered.

What colour bags do I get at IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship Nice?

Three: a grey morning clothes bag for streetwear, a blue bike gear bag for the bike, and a red mesh run gear bag for the run. They're issued at athlete check-in with a sticker sheet — one gear-bag sticker for each.

Which day do I race — Saturday or Sunday?

The women race Saturday 12 September and the men race Sunday 13 September. Your bike and bag check-in is the day before your own race, so the women rack on Friday and the men on Saturday afternoon.

Where does my helmet go?

Inside the blue bike gear bag. Age-group athletes are not permitted to leave a helmet on the bike or on the ground at check-in — it goes in the bag with the rest of your bike kit.

Do I drop all my bags in one place?

No — this is a split transition. Your bike, helmet and blue bike gear bag go to T1 on the Promenade des Anglais, and your red run gear bag goes to T2 at Oceanice. Same afternoon, two venues.

Can I get to my bags on race morning?

No. The guide is explicit: athletes have no access to the bike gear bag or the run gear bag on race morning. Pack them as though you won't see them again until you're racing, because you won't.

What are the cut-offs?

You have 8 hours 30 minutes from your own swim start to finish, with 1:10 for the swim and 5:45 for swim + T1 + bike. On the clock: the bike course closes at 15:10, with intermediate cut-offs at the Col de Vence (~36.3 km) at 13:10 and St Laurent du Var (~79.3 km) at 15:05, and a run turnaround cut-off at 17:05. Both days run to the same times.

When do I get my bike back?

Bike and gear check-out is at T2 (Oceanice) from 15:30 to 19:00 on your own race day — Saturday for the women, Sunday for the men. Bring the bike check-out ticket from your athlete packet.
