What to pack for IRONMAN Gurye Korea

IRONMAN Gurye Korea is a split-transition full distance — the one race this weekend where you do not come back to where you started. You swim and start the bike at Jirisan Lake Park, then ride down to a second transition in Gurye town and finish at the Main Stadium. Your kit is split across a blue bike bag and a red run bag that live in different places, plus a street gear bag that travels to the finish.

The layout, bags and check-in shape come from the race calendar and don't change year to year. Exact times are confirmed from the 2026 athlete guide.
how your bags travel

Each bag travels to where you'll need it.

On a split course you never return to where you started, so your kit is split across colour-coded bags that get moved for you while you race.

how the race is laid out

A split transition, in three places.

This is a true split transition: T1 is at Jirisan Lake Park where you swim, and T2 is a parking area next to the Jirisan Dulle-gil Center in Gurye town, next to the Main Stadium finish. You never return to the lake, so anything you leave there has to be collected afterwards — and anything you want at the finish must be in the right bag.

finishMain Stadium, Seosicheon-ro 106Run finish in the stadium in Gurye town, where your street gear bag is waiting.
Because the two transitions are separate venues with separate check-in points, Saturday is a two-stop day: bike and bike-gear bag at the lake, run-gear bag in town. Athlete vehicles are not permitted into the Lake Park area on Sunday morning, so plan the transport rather than assuming you can drive to T1.
what to pack

Five bags, by colour.

Gurye uses blue for the bike and red for the run, plus a street gear bag and separate bike and run personal-needs bags. On a split course the colours matter more than usual: the blue bag waits at the lake and the red bag waits in town, so a mis-packed bag is not recoverable mid-race.

Blue bag — Bike GearBike / T1 — what you ride in
  • Helmetstickered
  • Bike shoes
  • Sunglasses
  • Race belt + bib
  • Bike nutritiongels · bars
  • Arm warmersmountain air
Checked in at Jirisan Lake on Saturday and waiting at T1. Your swim gear goes into this bag as you come through — it is then collected from the lake after the race.
Red bag — Run GearRun / T2 — what you finish in
  • Running shoes
  • Run cap or visor
  • Run nutritiongels
  • Anti-chafe balm
  • Electrolytes
  • Head torchlate finishers
Checked in separately, in town, and waiting at T2 beside the stadium. With the course open until 00:20 a light is worth packing.
Street Gear BagMorning clothes — start → finish
  • Warm dry layer
  • Flip-flops or sandals
  • Small towel
  • Pre-swim throwaway top
  • Phone + keys pouch
Dropped at the tent near T1 at Jirisan Lake on race morning and moved to the finish for you — the bag that follows you down the valley.
Bike Personal Needs BagSpecial needs / bike — mid-ride only
  • Preferred gels or bars
  • Spare tube + CO2
  • Salt tablets
Accessed once only, at the Baekwooncheon rest area on the second bike lap — the guide is explicit that there is no access on the first lap.
Run Personal Needs BagSpecial needs / run — mid-run only
  • Preferred gels
  • Spare socks
  • Anti-chafe balm
Accessed once on the run course. Treat everything in it as gone.
+What you carry to the water (not in a bag): wetsuit if it is legal on the day, goggles, timing chip on your left ankle, and the official swim cap. Expected water temperature is around 24 °C, so check the race-morning wetsuit call before you plan on wearing one.
check-in & the clock

Your bike goes in the night before.

Gurye runs a mandatory day-before check-in across two venues: bike and bike-gear bag at Jirisan Lake, run-gear bag in town. All three close at 18:20 on Saturday and the bike is racked overnight. Race briefings are compulsory and run in both Korean and English on Friday and Saturday.

common questions

Gurye, answered.

Is IRONMAN Gurye a split transition?

Yes. T1 is at Jirisan Lake Park and T2 is in Gurye town, beside the Main Stadium finish — you do not return to the swim venue. That means two check-in points on Saturday and two separate gear bags waiting in two different places.

What time does bike and bag check-in close?

Bike check-in, the bike-gear bag and the run-gear bag all close Saturday at 18:20, with the bike racked overnight. Athlete Check-In itself closes earlier, at 17:30, and all race packs must be collected by then. Confirmed from the 2026 athlete guide.

What are the cut-offs?

Unusually, the guide publishes them as absolute times of day as well as durations. From your individual start you get 2:20 for the swim, 10:30 through the bike and 17:00 overall. As clock times for the predicted last starter: swim 09:40, Namdo Bridge turn (86.7 km) 13:45, Gurye Exit at Naengcheon (150.5 km) 16:40, bike dismount 17:50, Park Golf Entrance on the run 23:00, and the course closes at 00:20. The guide notes these are adjusted per athlete by the Race Director on the day.

When do I get my bike and bags back?

Street and bike-gear check-out runs 16:00 to 00:30, and bike and run-gear check-out 18:00 to 00:50. If you cannot collect that night there is a second window on Monday morning, 07:30 to 10:00 — useful given the two venues are 30 km apart.

Can I drive to the swim start?

No. Athlete vehicles are not permitted into the Jirisan Lake Park area on Sunday — parking is arranged separately for Saturday and Sunday, with shuttle transport into the Lake Park. Plan your race-morning transport in advance rather than assuming you can park at T1.
