Upcoming race guides →What to pack for IRONMAN 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun
IRONMAN 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun is an alpine 70.3 with an unusually late 11:00 start — three colour-coded bags, one transition down at the Alois Latini Stadion, and a finish up in the town centre at the Ferry Porsche Congress Center. You swim in Lake Zell, climb through the Pinzgau valleys, and run two flat laps by the water. Here's exactly what goes in each bag, when check-in closes, and how the day runs.
A single transition, in two places.
Swim, bike and run all turn through one transition at the Alois Latini Stadion in Schüttdorf — but the run finishes somewhere else, up in Zell am See town centre. Both gear bags stay at the one rack; only the white bag travels.
Three bags, by colour.
IRONMAN's colour-to-bag scheme is the same across European 70.3s, so this part is settled. Three bags: pack each for the discipline it powers, and remember the finish is not where your bike is.

Your bike goes in the night before.
Zell am See runs a mandatory Saturday bike check-in at the Alois Latini Stadion with the bike racked overnight — there's no race-morning bike check-in. It opens at 12:00 for PRO and AWA athletes, 12:30 for everyone else, and closes at 18:00. Registration is earlier and separate: Friday 10:00–18:00, Saturday 09:00–16:00.
The 2026 official guide is in. The times below are now confirmed for this edition — a few moved from last year.
How the morning typically runs.
A rare lie-in for a 70.3. Transition opens at 09:00 and closes at 10:45, the white-bag drop shuts at 10:50, the pros go at 11:00 and the age-group rolling start follows at 11:10. Bike check-out then runs from 16:00 until 21:00.
Zell am See, answered.
How many bags does IRONMAN 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun use?
Three: blue for the bike, red for the run, white for your street wear. It's a single-transition race, so blue and red both sit at the one rack at the Alois Latini Stadion.
What time does the race start?
Unusually late — 11:00 for the pro men, with the age-group rolling start at 11:10. The last athlete is away by 11:35. Plan breakfast and your warm-up around a late morning, not a 6am alarm.
Do I have to check my bike in the day before?
Yes. Bike check-in closes at 18:00 on Saturday and the bike is racked overnight. It opens at 12:00 for PRO and AWA athletes and 12:30 for everyone else. There is no race-morning bike check-in.
Where does the race finish?
At the Ferry Porsche Congress Center in Zell am See town centre — not back at transition in Schüttdorf. Your white bag meets you at the finish, but your bike and gear bags stay at the stadion, so factor the walk back down into your plans.
What are the bike cut-offs?
Four checkpoints on the alpine course: 12:50 to start the bike, 14:15 at Dienten am Hochkönig, 15:30 at Maishofen and 17:05 entering T2. The swim cut-off is 12:20 and the run course closes at 19:40.
How cold does it get by the finish?
The course stays open until 19:40, and an alpine valley cools quickly once the sun drops behind the peaks. Pack a light layer in the red bag and something genuinely warm in the white one — a mid-pack finisher will be out there well into the evening.
