Upcoming race guides →What to pack for IRONMAN 70.3 Jönköping
IRONMAN 70.3 Jönköping is a single-transition 70.3 and the 70.3 European Championship — you rack at one transition on Östra Torget, with colour-coded bags for the bike and the run and a white street bag, plus an optional yellow bag of shoes for the run up from the swim exit. The swim is in Lake Munksjön in the city centre, the finish is in Rådhusparken, and here's exactly what goes in each.
A single transition, in three places.
Swim, bike and run all turn through one transition on Östra Torget — you come back to the same rack between disciplines. The swim is a loop of Lake Munksjön, with a 500 m run up to transition, and the run finishes in Rådhusparken, so only your dry kit is moved across town.
Three bags, by colour.
IRONMAN's colour-to-bag scheme is the same across European 70.3s, so this part is settled. Pack blue for the bike, red for the run, and white for the clothes you arrive and leave in. Jönköping adds an optional fourth — a yellow bag of shoes for the run up from the swim, covered below.
- Running shoes
- Run cap or visor
- Run nutritiongels
- Anti-chafe balm
- Sunscreensmall
- Race beltif not on bike
- Warm dry layer
- Flip-flops or sandals
- Small towel
- Phone + keys pouch
- Recovery snackoptional
Your bike goes in the night before.
Jönköping runs a mandatory day-before bike check-in at Östra Torget on Saturday from 15:00 to 20:00, with the bike racked overnight — there's no race-morning bike check-in to fall back on. You rack the bike with the blue and red bags, your helmet must be inside the blue bag, and it's where you collect your timing chip.
The 2026 official guide is in. The times below are now confirmed for this edition — a few moved from last year.
How the morning typically runs.
The choreography barely moves year to year — transition opens at 07:00 and closes at 08:30, you drop the white bag at the swim start and hang the yellow bag at the swim exit on the way, then the rolling start runs from 09:10 after the pros go at 08:55 and 09:00. The order is what matters.
Jönköping, answered.
How many bags does Jönköping use?
Four: blue for the bike, red for the run, white for street wear, and an optional yellow bag for shoes on the run up from the swim exit. Blue and red are racked at the one transition; white is moved to the finish; yellow is hung at the swim exit on race morning.
What's the yellow bag for?
It holds a spare pair of shoes for the 500 m run from the swim exit to T1. You hang it on the swim-exit rack on race morning, put the shoes on as you come out of the water, and bin the empty bag there. It's optional — you can make the walk-up barefoot.
Is the swim in Lake Vättern or Munksjön?
The swim is in Lake Munksjön, in the heart of the city — one 1.9 km loop with a ramp entry and exit, not out on Vättern. The start is at Bryggan, and from the exit you head about 500 m to transition on Östra Torget.
Do I have to check my bike in the day before?
Yes. Bike check-in is mandatory and day-before, at Östra Torget on Saturday from 15:00 to 20:00, racked overnight with your blue and red bags. Your helmet goes inside the blue bag, and you collect your timing chip here. There is no race-morning bike check-in.
Where does the white bag go?
The white bag holds the dry clothes you arrive in. You hand it in at the swim start and it's moved to the finish, so warm kit is waiting in the After-Finish recovery area in Rådhusparken when you cross the line.
Is the cut-off tighter as the European Championship?
Not for the finish — Jönköping runs the standard 70.3 cut-offs: 1:10 swim, 5:30 to the end of the bike, 8:30 overall, all measured from your individual rolling start. There are road-closure cut-offs out on the bike too, so check the timeline above.
