Race day for this edition — 12 July 2026 — has passed. The guide stays up for reference.
Upcoming race guides →What to pack for IRONMAN 70.3 Musselman
IRONMAN 70.3 Musselman is a single-transition 70.3 on Seneca Lake in the Finger Lakes — and a North-American self-seeded transition, so there's no colour-coded bag system. You rack your own spot the day before, bring your bike kit to it on race morning, and there's no provided clothes bag: you bring your own gear bag, and it stays at your rack the whole day.
A single transition, in three places.
Swim, bike and run all turn through one transition at Lakefront Park in Geneva — you come back to the same rack you set up yourself. The swim starts in Seneca Lake right at the park, and the run finishes back at Lakefront Park, so the whole day runs through one venue.
Your kit, leg by leg.
North-American 70.3s don't run IRONMAN's colour-coded bag scheme. You set up your own transition, so this is less "what goes in each bag" and more what to lay out at your rack — grouped here by leg, plus the gear bag you bring yourself.

Your bike goes in the night before.
Musselman runs a mandatory day-before bike check-in at Lakefront Park — you rack your own bike on the Saturday, 09:30 to 16:30, and it stays overnight. Bikes can't enter transition on race morning, and Athlete Check-In does not open on race day either, so everything that gets you to the start line — bib, timing chip, swim cap — happens the day before.
The 2026 official guide is in. The times below are now confirmed for this edition — a few moved from last year.
How the morning typically runs.
The morning runs in one direction: transition opens at 05:00 at Lakefront Park, you reach your bike and lay out your kit, transition closes at 06:15, then the rolling, self-seeded swim start at 06:30. Athlete Check-In is already closed, so there's nothing to collect — rack, set up, line up.
Geneva, answered.
Does Musselman use coloured bags?
No. It's a North-American self-transition 70.3 — there's no blue/red bag system and no bag handlers. You set up your own spot on the age-group rack and lay your bike and run kit out yourself. The only bag is the gear bag you bring, which stays at your rack.
Is there a Morning Clothes Bag, and where do my dry clothes go?
There's no provided clothes bag — you bring your own gear bag. It has to fit in your rack space under your bike and it stays there all day. The swim start, transition and finish are all at Lakefront Park, so your dry clothes are waiting at your own rack when you finish.
When does bike check-in close?
Bike check-in is mandatory and the day before — Saturday, 09:30 to 16:30, racked overnight at Lakefront Park. Bikes can't enter transition on race morning, so don't plan to bring your bike on the day.
Can I bring my helmet and shoes on race morning?
Yes. The bike is racked overnight, but you reach it from 05:00 and can carry your helmet and cycling shoes into transition on race morning and lay them at your spot.
What are the cut-offs?
Generous, and measured from when the final athlete starts the swim: the swim closes 1:10 after the final start, the bike 5:30 after, and the overall course 8:30 after. There's one intermediate run cut-off at the start of the second lap; the swim-to-bike and bike-to-run transitions close 10 minutes after each discipline's cut-off.
Is it one transition or two, and where's the swim?
One. Swim, bike and run all turn through a single transition at Lakefront Park in Geneva; the rolling, self-seeded swim is a one-lap course in Seneca Lake at the same venue, and the run finishes back at the park.
