What to pack for IRONMAN Calella-Barcelona

IRONMAN Calella-Barcelona is a flat, fast full distance run out of one transition on Calella's soccer pitch. European format, so it uses the full coloured-bag scheme — blue for the bike, red for the run, a white street-wear bag, and orange and black personal-needs bags. The bike is two 90 km loops along the Mediterranean and the marathon runs on the seafront.

how the race is laid out

A single transition, in two places.

Swim, bike and run all turn through one transition on the soccer pitch, and the finish is on Platja de Garbí a short way along the front. Your blue and red bags go in on Saturday with the bike; the white bag is the one you carry in on race morning.

Check-in is earlier than most: bike and bags close at 14:00 on Saturday, not early evening. On race morning the white bag drop shuts with transition at 07:40, while personal-needs bags can go in until 08:00 — and the rolling start then runs 07:55 to 08:35, so your actual start may be forty minutes after the first athlete enters the water.
what to pack

Five bags, by colour.

Calella issues five bags: blue for bike gear, red for run gear, white for street wear, and orange and black for bike and run personal needs. Blue, red and the personal-needs bags are handed in with the bike on Saturday; the white bag is dropped on race morning.

check-in & the clock

Your bike goes in the night before.

Calella runs a mandatory bike and bags check-in on Saturday at the soccer pitch, with the bike racked overnight. It closes at 14:00 — notably early — and registration itself closes at the same time, so Saturday morning is the window for both.

common questions

Calella, answered.

How many bags does IRONMAN Barcelona use?

Five. Blue for the bike, red for the run, white for street wear, and orange and black for bike and run personal needs. Blue, red and the personal-needs bags go in with your bike on Saturday; the white bag is dropped on race morning next to transition.

What time does bike and bags check-in close?

It closes Saturday at 14:00 — earlier than most IRONMAN races, and the same time registration closes. Your bike is then racked overnight. Confirmed from the 2026 athlete guide.

What are the cut-offs?

They are measured from your own individual start time, not from the race start — the guide states this explicitly, because the start is rolling from 07:55 to 08:35. You get 2 hours 20 minutes for the swim, 9 hours 50 minutes through the bike, and 16 hours 20 minutes overall. So a late starter's clock cut-offs fall correspondingly later.

When do I get my bike and bags back?

Check-out for transition bags and the bike runs 18:40 until 01:00 at the soccer pitch — it runs past midnight because the race itself does. You will not be allowed to remove your bike without your wristband.

What is the bike course like?

It is two 90 km loops along the Mediterranean coast, flat and fast, with fixed mechanical service points at Vilassar de Mar and aid stations spread across both loops. The marathon then runs on the Calella seafront.
