What to pack for IRONMAN 70.3 Augusta

IRONMAN 70.3 Augusta is a single-transition 70.3 you seed yourself — North-American format, so there is no blue / red bag system. You rack your own bike and kit in the Depot Lot downtown, the bike goes in the day before and stays overnight, and you bring your own gear bag on race morning. The swim runs downriver with the Savannah's current, and you shuttle out to the start. Here is how to group your kit, when check-in closes, and how the morning runs.

The layout, bags and check-in shape come from the race calendar and don't change year to year. Exact times are confirmed from the 2026 athlete guide.
how the race is laid out

A single transition, in two places.

Swim, bike and run all turn through one transition in the Depot Lot at Reynolds St and 5th St. The one thing that is not in the same place is the swim start: you ride the shuttle from transition out to SRP Park, swim back downriver, and come into your own rack. The run then finishes a few blocks west at 8th and Reynolds.

T1 / T2 · one transitionDepot Lot at Reynolds St and 5th StSwim exit, bike out, then bike in and run out — all at your own rack. Bike and run kit are both laid out here.
finish8th St and Reynolds StRun finish downtown, a short walk west of transition — where your Morning Clothes Bag comes back to you.
The swim is point-to-point and current-assisted: you leave transition on a shuttle between 05:00 and 06:30 and swim back toward town, so anything you want after the swim must already be at your rack. Transition closes at 06:30 — earlier than the 07:25 age-group start suggests — so do not plan to come back to your bike after you board the shuttle.
what to pack

Three bags, by colour.

There is no colour-to-bag scheme here beyond the white Morning Clothes Bag. Think in legs: group your bike kit and your run kit and lay them out at your own rack space, then put the dry clothes you arrive in into the white bag.

You get this at Athlete Check-In. Leave it in the drop area at the swim start before you get in the water; collect it near the finish from 14:00. Bike pumps and backpacks are not accepted.
+What you carry to the water (not in a bag): wetsuit if it is legal on the day, goggles, timing chip on your left ankle, and the marked swim cap from your race packet. Everything else is already at your rack, and your white bag goes into the drop area at the swim start.
check-in & the clock

Your bike goes in the night before.

Augusta runs a mandatory day-before bike check-in in the Depot Lot with the bike racked overnight — there is no race-morning bike check-in to fall back on, and Athlete Check-In does not open on race day at all. Collect your timing chip at Athlete Check-In, not at the rack.

The 2026 official guide is in. The times below are now confirmed for this edition — a few moved from last year.

race morning

How the morning typically runs.

The order is what matters: transition opens at 04:30 and closes at 06:30, and the shuttle from transition out to the SRP Park swim start runs 05:00 to 06:30. Pro women go at 07:15 and the age-group rolling start follows at 07:25. Because the shuttle and transition both shut at 06:30, your rack has to be finished well before then.

common questions

Augusta, answered.

Does Augusta use coloured bags?

No. Augusta is a North-American self-transition 70.3, so there is no blue / red gear-bag system. The only bag issued is the white Morning Clothes Bag. You are responsible for bringing your own gear bag on race morning — any bag that fits your rack space beneath your bike.

What time does bike check-in close?

Mandatory bike check-in closes Saturday at 17:00, the day before the race, and your bike is racked overnight. This is confirmed from the 2026 athlete guide. Athlete Check-In itself closes earlier, at 16:00 on Saturday, and all race packets must be collected by then.

How does the swim start work?

It is a downriver rolling start away from transition. You take the shuttle from the Depot Lot out to SRP Park between 05:00 and 06:30, then swim back down the Savannah with the current. Pro women start at 07:15 and the age-group rolling start begins at 07:25.

What are the cut-offs?

You have 8 hours 30 minutes overall, measured from when the final athlete enters the water. The swim closes 1:10 and the bike 5:30 after the final athlete starts — these are durations, not clock times, because the start is rolling. The guide does give two cut-offs as times of day: the bike course at Mile 41 (4H Club Rd and Doug Bernard Hwy) at 13:10, and the run at Aid Station 6 (Mile 6.6) at 15:55.

When do I get my bike back?

Bike and gear check-out runs 14:00 to 18:00 on race day in the Depot Lot, and the Morning Clothes Bag pick-up is open 14:00 to 17:45 near the finish at 8th and Reynolds. You cannot remove your bike before check-out opens, so plan the end of your day around 18:00.
